The name “M-Pesa” is derived from the Swahili words for mobile (mobile) and money (pesa). The service operates through a SIM card, allowing users to deposit or withdraw cash, pay for goods and services, and access credit and savings, all with a mobile device. M-Pesa has over 43 million customers across seven countries in Africa, including Kenya, Tanzania, Mozambique, the Democratic Republic of Congo, Lesotho, Ghana, Egypt, three countries in Asia, Afghanistan, China and UAE, and Germany in Europe.
